History

Following a decision at the ECPGR Brassica Working Group meeting, 1991 in Czechoslovakia, the Centre for Genetic Resources, The Netherlands (CGN) has been given the responsibility to develop a central database for Brassica germplasm, collected and preserved by the ECPGR members.

Major updates (2001 and 2005) of the European Brassica database (Bras-EDB) were supported financially by the European Commission in EU project RESGEN CT99-109/112 : "Brassica collections for broadening agricultural use" including "Characterising and utilising genetic variation in Brassica carinata for its exploitation as an oilseed crop".

Accessions present in the two core collections established in RESGEN CT99-109/112 and AIR3 – CT920463 are tagged in the database and included in the search options.

Information and results of the RESGEN CT99 109-112 and AIR3 – CT920463 projects on the genetic resources of Brassica can be approached via this web site.

After the update in 2007, all passport data are according to the EURISCO descriptors.

More information on the updates in 2005 and 2007 in: D. Astley, N. Bas, F. Branca, M.C. Daunay, M.J. Díez, J. Keller, W. van Dooijeweert, R. van Treuren, L. Maggioni and E. Lipman, compilers., 2007. Report of a Vegetables Network. Second Meeting, 26–28 June 2007, Olomouc, Czech Republic

From August 2019 the database is not on-line searchable anymore due to safety issues in the search interface. All data are still available from the download section.
